EUROFREIGHT VS BREAST CANCER

April 30th 2006 marks a significant day for Cyprus as the women of Paphos end their month long collection of bras in a bid to make Cypriot people more aware of Breast Cancer on the island. This attempt overrides Singapore’s record and will be written in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Bras were collected from all over the island as well as from the UK and Holland. Eurofreight was the first company to support this cause as you may have read in a previous news release. Being the only company that supported the 'Cancer Patients' Support Group Paphos' the organisation once again turned to us in order to fulfil their logistics and transportation needs.

Leading the group was CEO George Papachristodoulou with his son Athos Papachristodoulou, accompanied by 'driver of the year' Demetris Tekkis; air export manager Pitsa Spyrou and her husband Spyros Spyrou; sales manager Roulla Loizou and her fiancé Loizos Moleskis; IT manager Chris Papapetrou; warehouse manager Sotis Michael and his fiancé Leona; marketing manager Athos Chrysafis; financial controller Loizos Hadjiloizou and last but not least executive secretary Kathy Kattashis.

The team met up on Saturday afternoon at the Saint Neophytos monastery in Tala where they proceeded to the warehouse where the bras were stored. They loaded the 1109 black bin liners and then went to rest as they had to be at the Paphos Harbour for 06:00 hours.

Sunday 30th April 06:00 hours and the Eurofreight Team prepares for the unloading and counting of the bin liners and bras. CEO George Papachristodoulou will sign the official documents for the counting and Warehouse Manager Soti Michael will calculate the distance.

The Team works hard to unload and distribute the bras along the harbour floor and at 15:00 hours after a long, hot and hard day the World Record is broken and 1000 pink balloons are symbolically released in order to mark the ending of the ceremony.

The official count is 114,782 bras and the official distance is 111 kilometres.

This isn’t the end for Eurofreight as they also have to load the bras once again, clean the harbour floor and take back to the warehouse for further storing until the Red Cross officially sends the bras to 3rd World countries.

Although a difficult weekend, Eurofreight celebrates with dinner at the harbour.
